March 5 The Big Band Sound of Rufus Reid with the WDR Band

I am honored to be asked to bring my music, and to perform with the noted WDR Band in Cologne, Germany. I feel very fortunate to perform with this respected ensemble.

Dennis Mackrel will be conducting, as always. Dennis allows me to concentrate on playing!

March 20 Rufus at the 43rd Annual TCU Jazz Festival, Fort Worth, TX

Texas Christian University is hosting it’s very successful festival with high school and middle school ensembles. I am honored to be asked to join the festivities this year.

Friday evening I will perform with the TCU Jazz Faculty

Saturday at Noon, there will be a performance clinic.

Saturday evening, I will perform with the TCU Jazz Ensemble.

I think they will be keep me busy and I think it will be a lot of fun.

I have been asked to be a Mentor as part of the Ravenscroft Jazz Resident Artist Program at ASU this year. It has been a great experience interacting with the students and faculty here. I am looking forward to this visit.

June 1-5 Bridges Competition Concert, Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute

Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute Program for Jazz is pleased to announce the return of the jazz and classical fusion composition competition Bridges, awarding the David Baker Prize to young artists for new works written for string quartet and jazz trio.

Up to three winners will be selected, and each winner will be awarded a prize of $2,500. Winners will have their compositions premiered in Ravinia’s Bennett Gordon Hall Friday, June 5, 2020.

Billy Childs, Steve Wilson, and I will be here all week working with the young composers.

Concert: Bennett Gordon Hall is located in the John D. Harza Building, at the southwest corner of Ravinia, near the south gate.

June 4-12 Rufus Reid at Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute

The one-week Program for Jazz at Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute is a unique summer program for young professional musicians that focuses upon composition and performance. Days are spent rehearsing in quintets, studying composition with the faculty, and learning how to perform with ever-changing personnel. All fellows write original music as a cornerstone of the program. Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute fosters a supportive, non-competitive environment for study and performance, with participants from around the world creating a distinctive jazz community.

This is a a weeklong residential program open to bass students, ages 13-21, of all ability levels and for musical genres from jazz to classical.
