I was invited to bring my Quintet to the Skidmore Jazz institute in July. I decided to invite Tia Fuller, the magnificent alto player, to play with us. It has been years since she has performed with my quintet. She really showed that she has been working hard during her time away, and blew us all away. I also asked a truly great trumpet player, Michael Rodriguez, to join the my trio of Steve Allee, piano, and Duduka Da Fonseca, drums, and myself. It was a fantastic concert and we all, audience as well as performers, had a great time. I live for the unknown and when it comes to me, I am in heaven. This was a very special concert. We all came together beautifully. Their concert hall is truly magical, and it was amazing just being in it! One would like to be there for all seasons listening to good music!
I gave a Masterclass that afternoon for the institute’s participants. That was fun, as well.
